Seven Steps Toward Demon Possession

(Col.1:16) “For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him.”  All governments whether in heaven or in earth are created by God and for God.

(Rom.13:1-7) “Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.  Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation.  For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same:  For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil.

Wherefore ye must needs be subject, not only for wrath, but also for conscience sake.  For for this cause pay ye tribute also: for they are God's ministers, attending continually upon this very thing.  Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honour to whom honour.”  One should be very careful in how and what they say against government officials.  Especially angelic ones.

(Jude 1:9) “Yet Michael the archangel, when contending with the devil he disputed about the body of Moses, durst not bring against him a railing accusation, but said, The Lord rebuke thee.”  Many overstep their bounds in how they deal with principalities and powers.  Here we see Michael the Archangel not daring to rail against the devil.  If Michael would not do that, then why do many believers speak perversely to Satan?  We must follow the biblical example.

Christ is above all.  (Col.2:10) “And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power.”  (Eph.1:20-21) “Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places, Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come:”

A note to those who are Christians and know who they are in Christ is the fact that when we become believers, we become one in Christ.  (ICor.6:17) “But he that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit.”  And the Spirit of God lives within us.  (Rom.8:11) “But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.”  If the Holy Spirit is within you, and you and Christ are one, then the one to whom the principalities and powers are subject to is a part of you.  As they are subject to Christ, so are they subjected to the one who belongs to Christ.

Christ has destroyed all demonic power.  (Col.2:15) “And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.”  The word spoil here means to disarm.  To those with the authority of Christ abiding on them, those are the ones that are able to disarm the enemy.  The word powers has to do with the power and authority of the principality.  It is cancelled as a result of Christ triumphing over them.  That authority is extended to the believer.

(Eph.3:10) “To the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in heavenly places might be known by the church the manifold wisdom of God.”  Believer’s must understand the realm of principalities and powers.  Wisdom concerning this is available.   (James 1:5) “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.”  If you need understanding in anything, ask for it.

Our Battle Is Not With Men

(Eph.6:10-12) “Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.   Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.  For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.”

We wrestle against spirits.  If it is not flesh and blood, it is a spirit.  Wrestling: A contest between two in which each endeavours to throw the other, and which is decided when the victor is able to hold his opponent down with his hand upon his neck.  The term is transferred to the Christian's struggle with the power of evil.  (Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance)  There is a wrestling that takes places in the realm of the spirit in which the victor has dominion over the loser.  It should be Christians, but sadly, in many instances that is not the case.

If one is to win the wrestling match, they must be strong enough to win.  We are commanded to be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.  How does one become strong?

  1. Do not bow to unbelief:  (Rom.4:20) “He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God.”

  1. Embrace physical weakness through trials:  (IICor.12:9-10) “And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ's sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong.”

  1. Believe that God works in you:  (Phil.4:13) “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.”
  1. Imparted by the Holy Spirit: (Eph.3:16) “That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man.”

  1. Received by the Anointed: (Col.1:11) “Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness.”

God provides many warnings in the word about conspiring with Principalities and Powers of darkness.  (Deut.18:9-12) “When thou art come into the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not learn to do after the abominations of those nations.  There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch, Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer.  For all that do these things are an abomination unto the LORD: and because of these abominations the LORD thy God doth drive them out from before thee.”

Joining forces with principalities and powers not of God is strictly forbidden throughout scripture.  It is not just joining the enemy.  It is much more than that.  It is rejecting God.  Anytime one goes to something other than God, they run an extreme risk of getting into trouble.

Such people have titles, they are as follows:

  1. False Christs: (Matt.24:24) “For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.”  Prophets are suppose to be divinely inspired by God to proclaim future events.  Many false representations of prophets have infiltrated the church.  And that is where many can be found.  And many false signs have been given.  The word signs here means:  of miracles and wonders by which God authenticates the men sent by him, or by which men prove that the cause they are pleading is God's.  Great discernment must be used in these matters and always must be backed up with the word of God.

  1. False Prophets: (Matt.7:15) “Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.”  There are many of these In the church as well. (IJohn 4:1) “Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.”

You will know them by their fruits. (Matt.7:16-20) “Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.  Not the size of their pocketbook!

How to know the fruit.

Works of the flesh: (Gal.5:19-21) “Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.”  Those that do these things are in the flesh and are not of God.  Know any?

Fruit Of The Spirit:  (Gal.5:22-25) “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.  And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.”  The wants and desires of the flesh are crucified with a true believer.  This is why we must be aware of those that are after fleshly things like money and power in the church.

(Matt.24:11) “And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.”  This is for the simple reason that many false prophets masquerade as ministers of Christ.  (IICor.11:14-15) “And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.  Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.”  Watch their works.  Do they crave money, power and fleshly things?  Or are they always speaking spiritual things?  What they speak will give you a clue to their intentions.  (Matt.12:34) “O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.”

  1. False Teachers:  Teach Heresy- (IIPeter 2:1-2) “But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.  And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of.”  Those that teach heresy will be destroyed in the end.

They are covetous, and speak flattery, are lustful and commit adultery.  (IIPet.2:10,14) “But chiefly them that walk after the flesh in the lust of uncleanness, and despise government. Presumptuous are they, selfwilled, they are not afraid to speak evil of dignities.  Having eyes full of adultery, and that cannot cease from sin; beguiling unstable souls: an heart they have exercised with covetous practices; cursed children:”

They are rebellious:  (IIPet.2:10) “But chiefly them that walk after the flesh in the lust of uncleanness, and despise government. Presumptuous are they, selfwilled, they are not afraid to speak evil of dignities.”  They are also not afraid to speak evil of dignitaries.  We are commanded not to speak evil of anyone.  (Titus 3:2) “To speak evil of no man, to be no brawlers, but gentle, shewing all meekness unto all men.”

They speak evil of things they do not discern:  (IIPet.2:12) “But these, as natural brute beasts, made to be taken and destroyed, speak evil of the things that they understand not; and shall utterly perish in their own corruption.”

They are riotous:  (IIPet.2:13) “And shall receive the reward of unrighteousness, as they that count it pleasure to riot in the day time. Spots they are and blemishes, sporting themselves with their own deceivings while they feast with you.”

They are deceivers:  (IIPet.2:14) “Having eyes full of adultery, and that cannot cease from sin; beguiling unstable souls: an heart they have exercised with covetous practices; cursed children.”

They are vain: (IIPet.2:18) “For when they speak great swelling words of vanity, they allure through the lusts of the flesh, through much wantonness, those that were clean escaped from them who live in error.”

They promise liberty but live in bondage themselves:  (IIPet.2:19) “While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption: for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage.”

Many were saved but are fallen: (IIPet.2:20) “For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning.”

There are many such people within the body of Christ and most are on television. These are great deceivers of the truth.  These individuals are about to have their hearts desire taken away from them.  And great will be the fall of many ministries who have built it on money, power and fame.  Many think the spirit of God works through them, but for many, the opposite is true.

The reason that many seek demonic power today is a blame that lies largely at the door of the church.  For too long so-called ministers have denied the power of God and ignored the ministry of deliverance.  This is the exact position the enemy wants us in.  Because the subject of demons is shunned by modern Christendom, the enemy continues to gain power and control.  Only a  select few really know the enemy and how to fight him.

Corruption and deceit have so infiltrated the church that it is going to take a severe chastening of God to shake us loose.  The demonic deception covering modern Christendom is overwhelming to consider.  Many would say it was a lie if one was to say that their pastor was possessed with demons or is a Satanist.  But, it is true.  Many are and many know that what they teach holds people in bondage.  It’s quite simple really.  Jesus said, “you shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free.”

So, it is the truth that makes you free.  If that is true, and it is, then why are so many in the church bound?  The divorce rate in the Christian community is as high as non-Christians.  Corruption and greed are overwhelming, and many struggle with pornography, drugs, and alcohol.  These people are free?  They have the answer?  I think not in many cases.  If the truth makes you free, then false truth binds you.  I am talking about a watered down wishy-washy truth that has invaded Christendom like cancer!

The word of God is a sword.  A sword hurts when it pierces you.  The real truth hurts!  As the saying goes.  But, it is true.  Why do you think Christ was crucified?  He spoke a truth that few know and even fewer understand.  It got him crucified!  Many would never speak something that could get them killed.  It is not easy to digest, and if the ones who hear it have demons, they will attack.  Especially Christians.  You heard right.  It was the religious leaders that were the problem in Jesus’ day and so it is today.  Nothing has changed.  Demons still rule the church.

Because of all of this, the church does not exercise its God given power and authority.  It is bound in chains and most don’t even know it.  As a result of the power of God not being displayed, many have gone to demonic power to find what they seek.

Demonic principalities main aim is to make the church neutral, ineffective, dead.  (Dan.10:12-13) “Then said he unto me, Fear not, Daniel: for from the first day that thou didst set thine heart to understand, and to chasten thyself before thy God, thy words were heard, and I am come for thy words.  But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me one and twenty days: but, lo, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me; and I remained there with the kings of Persia.”

The prince over Persia was a chief angelic principality.  He withstood the angel for twenty-one days.  It seems that there was a major battle that went on over this area, as it went on for twenty-one days.   He states that the prayer was heard instantly, but that he was delayed in answering it as a result of the battle over Persia.  It also states that Michael, a chief prince, was sent to help, and as a result, the angel was able to come and deliver the message.  Angels respond to the voice of God.  (Ps.103:20)“Bless the LORD, ye his angels, that excel in strength, that do his commandments, hearkening unto the voice of his word.”  They excel in strength as a result of hearing God.  But, God moves as a result of us speaking to Him.  (Is.45:11) “Thus saith the LORD, the Holy One of Israel, and his Maker, Ask me of things to come concerning my sons, and concerning the work of my hands command ye me.”

As a result of us praying, it puts God into action, and he puts the angels to work on our behalf.  There is a mighty war taking place over a person who prays.  But, unlike demons who get tired, Angels excel in strength as we pray.  This is the biggest problem in Christianity today.  Prayerlessness.  A prayerless saint is like a dead man.  They just don’t know it yet.
